As a kind of standard communication interface replacing traditional serial ports, USB has been extensively applied to numerous kinds of equipment. Particularly since the release of USB2.0 standard, USB interface has been unprecedentedly improved in reliability and stability and accepted gradually in the industrial control device field which has strict requirements. Such features of industrial devices as serious interference, high temperature and humidity, existence of transient overvoltage, lightning strike and some other poor conditions, as well as long communication distance make it urgent to solve the isolation problem of USB interface and the problem of communication distance extension of USB devices. After concentrated research and development and market surveys, our company, in December 2009, launched two brand new USB interface assistive products suitable for industrial application, namely USB isolator and USB extender.

Differing from previous similar products in the industry, the two kinds of latest products employ the latest technologies and chips while following the company’s design rule for industrial products. Thus, they have great advantages in terms of technology and performance. 

USB isolator:

Our USB isolators include two types, i.e. USB-4G3K with an isolation voltage of 3000VDC and USB-4G6K with an isolation voltage of 6000VDC. Only differing in isolation voltage, the isolators of the two types are completely the same in other properties and, after isolation, their downstream USB ports both have four USB interfaces. User may connect a USB HUB with the downstream port of isolator of either type to realize isolation for multiple pieces of downstream equipment. The isolators are very convenient in use: Insert the upstream USB cable of the USB isolator into the USB interface of the host to obtain power via the USB interface. The downstream four USB interfaces are isolated and can provide a maximum total output current of 5VDC 350mA. So, the electric power demand of most USB devices can be satisfied thoroughly. User only needs to insert the original USB cable plug into the downstream interface of the isolator while conducting no settings, which is a method completely different from previous method.

USB-4G6K isolator is a special product meeting the requirement of high isolation voltage designed according to the features of medical industry, coal mining industry, petrochemical industry, electric power industry and some other industries. The isolation voltages of its upstream and downstream USB interfaces are larger than 6000VDC, which is in line with relevant safety standard(s) and code(s).

Main technical parameters of USB isolator:

●    Isolation voltage between upstream port and downstream port: 3000VDC (model: USB-4G3K) or 6000VDC (model: USB-4G6K).

●    Consisting of one upstream USB interface and four downstream USB interfaces.

●    Supporting 12Mbps full-speed USB transmission and 1.5Mbps low-speed USB transmission and is compatible with USB V2.0.

●    Automatic recognition of USB High-Speed and USB Full-Speed or USB Low-Speed.

●    Supporting USB control transmission, bulk transmission, interruption transmission, synchronous / isochronous transmission.

●    Power supply source: supplied via the USB interface of the host.

●     The output isolating source of the downstream USB ports after isolation: 5VDC @350mA (the maximum total output current of the four downstream USB interfaces).

●    All upstream and downstream USB ports are provided with a surge protector.

●    Working temperature: -40~+85℃

●    Relative humidity: 0~95% (without condensed water)

●    External dimensions: 70×37×61 (L×W×H, mm) aluminum profile shielded enclosure

USB extender:

The USB extender independently developed by our company is also called USB line driver or USB line transceiver. Its model is USB-EX75. It overcomes the host’s limitation for USB cable length and converts the USB signal of the host into differential signal suitable for long-distance transmission first and transmits it through an ordinary data cable. After reaching the remote end, the differential signal is restored to a standard USB signal. With USB-EX75 extender, the communication length of USB may be extended to be 75m (in case of full-speed) or 300m (in case of low-speed) without necessity to change the original communication protocol and software. Designed according to industrial standard, the product is extensively applied in fields like industrial automation, computer, USB data acquisition unit, banking, securities, etc.

USB-EX75 USB extender is very convenient in use: Two pieces of USB-EX75 extenders form a set and should be used at the same time, with one inserted into the host’s USB interface and the other into the USB device. The two pieces of USB-EX75 extenders should be connected by a one-to-one data cable just as a USB device is directly inserted into the host’s USB interface.

At present, the longest extended distance of similar USB devices in the industry is 50m (in case of full speed) or 100m (in case of low speed).

●    Supporting 12Mbps full-speed USB transmission and 1.5Mbps low-speed USB transmission and is compatible with USB V2.0.

●    Automatic recognition of USB High-Speed and USB Full-Speed or USB Low-Speed.

●    Supporting USB control transmission, bulk transmission, interruption transmission, synchronous / isochronous transmission.

●    It uses the standard Cat5, Cat5e or Cat6 data cable. The maximum transmission distance of a 12Mbps full-speed USB signal is 75m and that of a 1.5Mbps low-speed USB signal is 300m.

●     As a pure hardware solution, it is completely real-time and transparent for USB protocol. It needs no installation of any drivers and supports windows 98/ME/2000/XP/Vista/Server200X/64bit-Vista/Windows 7 and Linux.

●    Power supply source: 5VDC/20mA, supplied via the USB interface of the host.

●    All upstream and downstream USB interfaces are provided with a surge protector.

●    Working temperature: -40~+85℃

●    Relative humidity: 0~95% (without condensed water)
